Announcement: Cancellation of Hibanacon Discovery due to Covid-19
Written by Joe on 08/03/2021
Greetings Bright Sparks,

We hope you are all safe and well in these difficult times.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for your support and positive messages following the postponement of Hibanacon Discovery in 2020.

As we said in our last message, we have continued to monitor the Covid-19 situation vigilantly, in light of frequently changing government restrictions and guidance.

Our primary concern has always been the safety of our attendees and volunteers. Even with the the vaccination programme, and recent government announcements about the possible easing of restrictions, we have concluded that it is still unlikely we can operate Hibanacon in 2021.

We are also conscious that new mutations of Covid-19 are starting to appear, the implications of which are uncertain. Having carefully considered the options, we are reluctant to simply postpone Hibanacon by another year, given there is still a risk of Covid-related disruption in 2022.

It is with regret and great sadness that we must therefore announce Hibanacon Discovery is officially being cancelled.

This decision was taken due to a multitude of complex risks that still remain following the recent Government Roadmap, the likely outcomes of which were taken into account.

This is not the outcome we had hoped for and we understand that it will be disappointing news to you. But we cannot in good conscience run an event unless we are certain it can be done safely.

Any tickets already purchased for Hibanacon Discovery will be refunded in full.

Undoubtedly you may have questions, so we have tried to address as many of them here as we can:

When will I get my refund?

We will commence the refund process immediately, this is a manual process and will take some time to complete. Refunds will be processed in batches, so please be patient and we will process all refunds as rapidly as we can. As soon as your refund has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email.

What about accommodation?

If you have already booked accommodation for Hibanacon, we encourage you to contact your hotel at the earliest opportunity to discuss your options. Hibanacon is unable to assist with hotel queries as they are handled directly with your hotel.

If you have a question that is not covered above, please email us: info@hibanacon.co.uk

Once again we would like to thank you all for your support during these difficult times.

Stay safe, Bright Sparks.
